- This week, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to announce the highly anticipated recipients of the department’s National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF). Often referred to as the “green bank, the NCIF will select two to three nonprofits to distribute a total of $14 billion to stimulate the national clean energy marketplace.
- Florida is attempting to erase any mention of climate change from its laws. A bill proposed by state Rep. Bobby Payne (R) proposed eliminating the word “climate” in eight places from current state laws. Additionally, the bill would ban offshore wind energy and relax natural gas pipeline regulations. The move came on the heels of a new economic report released by The Nature Conservancy titled Economic Benefits of Decarbonization in Florida. The study touts Florida’s ability to reach net-zero by 2050 with the development of clean energy and the active participation of the private sector.
Monday: The Interagency Working Group on Coal and Power Plant Communities and Economic Revitalization and the Department of Energy (DOE) is hosting a webinar at 1 p.m. ET today going over available federal funding opportunities for clean energy manufacturing and economic development. Tuesday: The Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) is hosting an in-person and virtual webinar about the impact of climate change on national security. The briefing will discuss different adaptation strategies on local and federal levels, along with federal funding available for implementation.
